Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty

Within the context of osteoporosis care, Internal Medicine and Orthopedics Departments at Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty have been collaborating to address fragility fractures, particularly hip fractures, since 2017. Although a standardized Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) is not yet fully operational, the team has been actively working to assess hip fracture patients for osteoporosis and secondary fracture prevention.

This collaboration marks the foundation for establishing a comprehensive FLS in line with international best practices. The service aims to implement systematic identification, investigation, and initiation of treatment for patients aged 50 and above who present with fragility fractures. While some patients may not yet have received optimal follow-up due to the lack of a fully formalized system, this initiative represents a significant step toward reducing secondary fracture risk and improving long-term outcomes.

Our vision is to develop a fully integrated FLS that bridges the gap between acute fracture care and osteoporosis management, ensuring seamless patient care. We are committed to aligning with the Capture the Fracture framework and providing a model for best practices in Türkiye.
