We are pleased to announce that Argentina has reached a significant milestone in the care of fracture patients by obtaining its first Gold category Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) in the Capture the Fracture® network. This prestigious recognition has been awarded to the FLS of the Center for Endocrinology, Metabolism, Nutrition and Diabetes (CEM) of the Sanatorio Las Lomas.

Dr. Claudia Firpo, coordinator of the FLS CEM Sanatorio Las Lomas, expressed her excitement at this achievement: "Having obtained the Gold Standard from IOF’s Capture the Fracture® program fills us with emotion. It was our goal since we started the program in 2017 – to improve the quality of life of our patients. We detected, from the various communications from the IOF, that fractured patients have a higher risk of suffering new fractures when they are not adequately studied and treated. This sparked our interest in prevention and early treatment to avoid the cascade of fractures that deteriorates the quality of life of the patient and their environment, and often ends their life."

The FLS CEM Sanatorio Las Lomas serves hundreds of patients annually, providing a comprehensive service that not only focuses on the treatment of fractures, but also on the implementation of preventive strategies to avoid recurrences. Dr. Firpo added: "We have worked all these years to improve our FLS, developing various strategies to capture more patients, build loyalty with treatment and follow-up, and monitor their evolution over time. It is very important to provide early access to the consultation, a personalized evaluation that covers different diagnostic methodologies and close follow-up that allows improving compliance with treatment. In addition, we have developed patient promotional materials, awareness campaigns, informational talks for patients and the medical community to increase awareness of early referral of fractured patients. The latest addition was the fall prevention department, with which we are already seeing important achievements. We are pleased to see a significant reduction in fracture recurrence in our population, as well as the approval and support of patients, who are positively engaged in the program and treatment."

Sanatorio Las Lomas FLS Team

We congratulate the entire service team for this outstanding recognition. Their dedication and professionalism have been key to achieving this achievement, which sets a standard of excellence for other centers in the country. Years of continuous work and effort by the whole team have paid off. Dr. Firpo concluded: "Teamwork is essential to be able to implement such an important program. We thank the entire CEM staff, the medical and paramedical staff of the sanatorium, as well as the IOF for their permanent help."
