IOF’s Capture the Fracture® (CTF) Best Practice Framework sets standards of care to which Post-Fracture Care Coordination Programs such as Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) can aspire to. Each FLS can complete the questionnaire which serves as an audit of their service. We encourage FLS to re-submit the questionnaire for follow up audits, which can improve their rating on the Map of Best Practice.
On March 3rd, 2021, Capture the Fracture® had the pleasure to announce to Hospital Público de Monforte the improvement in their rating from Blue to Bronze. To mark the occasion, we asked FLS Coordinator Dr. José López Castro, MD, PhD to share his thoughts about the CTF program and about his experience in leading an FLS.
In what way is Capture The Fracture® helpful for your FLS?
Capture The Fracture® has triggered FLS initiatives in our center.
Our area of service is characterized by an old population, which results in a high number of cases of osteoporotic fractures. On the other hand, our aim is to deliver multidisciplinary clinical approaches and tertiary prevention of fractures. Lastly, Capture The Fracture® has inspired a shared responsibility model across our clinical teams for patients with hip fractures.
How has your FLS improved the quality of service in the past year?
Awareness among our staff has been a key success factor. Participants have leveraged this approach in their routine work with patients. This recognition will become a key driver to standardize this approach in our institution, and definitely sets the scene to progressively increase our degree of excellence.
The Map of Best Practice has welcomed 27 new FLS since the start of 2021 –a great start to the year. CTF congratulates all FLS that have been added to the map as well as all FLS that continue to work hard to provide appropriate post-fracture care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
