The people's hospital of Liaoning Province
The Orthopedics Department at Liaoning Provincial People’s Hospital is a provincial leader, with four specialized units: Spine Surgery, Trauma and Joint Surgery, Sports Medicine and Joint Surgery, and Bone and Soft Tissue Tumor Surgery, offering 147 beds. It chairs the Sports Medicine and Orthopedics branches of the Liaoning Medical Association and is home to the Liaoning Joint Surgery and Sports Injury Treatment Center, as well as the Orthopedic Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center.
Spine Surgery specializes in age-related degenerative conditions, providing minimally invasive (PKP, PVP) and open surgeries for osteoporotic vertebral fractures, minimally invasive (PELD, UBE) and open treatments for cervical and lumbar spinal stenosis, and both minimally invasive (radiofrequency ablation) and open (en-bloc) procedures for spinal tumors. It performs around 1,000 surgeries annually.
The department’s Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) identifies high-risk patients using FRAX and DXA assessments, offering personalized treatment plans with bone-building or anti-resorptive medications as needed. Follow-up care includes quarterly bone turnover marker (BTM) testing, biannual DXA bone density (BMD) and vertebral fracture assessments (VFA), quality-of-life evaluations, and guidance on medication adherence and lifestyle changes to minimize future fracture risks.
