KEDAH MEDICAL CENTRE
The Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) at Kedah Medical Centre comprises a team of healthcare professionals who work together to prevent subsequent fractures in patients who have had a fragility fracture. The FLS is a partnership between the orthopaedic and physician team, and includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapist, pharmacist, radiographer, laboratory technologist, dietician, administrator and information technology specialist.
The FLS involves 4 key processes, which are:
- Identification of fracture patient, targeting all patients ≥50 years who sustained Fragility Fractures.
- Investigation: Fracture Risk assessment , Bone Mineral Density Assessment , Bone Metabolism Studies and Falls Risk Assessment,
- Intervention and Initiation of Treatment: Recommendation of anti-osteoporosis medication, falls prevention, exercise program and risk factor modification. For each patient, a personalized plan will be drawn up .
- Follow-up.
With the full implementation of this Fracture Liaison Service, we hope that the risk of further falls and fractures of the fragility fracture patients will reduce significantly in the future.
