Cochin Hospital
The Cochin Hospital is a public academic hospital located in the center of Paris. The population served by this hospital is around 830 000 inhabitants.
The Fracture Liaison Service was implemented for the management of patients (aged > 50 years, mean age of 84 years) with fragility fracturse (hip fractures, non-vertebral fractures, and vertebral fractures). This intervention is dedicated to inpatients and outpatients. This post fracture care structure is based on a multidisciplinary group with orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, geriatricians, rehabilitation physicians, radiologists, nurse specialists and physiotherapists.
The assessment of these patients allows us to:
-measure bone mineral density
- identify vertebral fractures and secondary causes of osteoporosis
- initiate antiosteoporotic treatment if necessary
- prevent falls with adapted physical activity programs
- ensure the good adherence and persistence to pharmacological (medication) and non-pharmacological treatment (prevention of falls) with therapeutic patient education programs.
Using FLS population data, we performed some studies.
Nassar K, Paternotte S, Kolta S, Fechtenbaum J, Roux C, Briot K. Added value of trabecular bone score over bone mineral density for identification of vertebral fractures in patients with areal bone mineral density in the non-osteoporotic range. Osteoporos Int. 2014 ;25:243-9.

The coordinator of our FLS is Dr Karine Briot, rheumatologist (karine.briot@aphp.fr).
