Outstanding FLS at Taiwanese Hospital

Congratulations to E-Da Hospital in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan (R.O.C.) for their exemplary Fracture Liaison Service, with a Capture the Fracture score of 100%!

E-Da Hospital in Kaohsiung City is part of a large network of hospitals within the E-Da Healthcare Group. The Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) lead clinician is Dr Wei-Chieh, Hung.

The E-Da Hospital FLS saw more than 2800 patients in the past year (including hip, non-hip inpatients, outpatients, and vertebral fractures). It comprises a comprehensive case management system and IT systems that automatically screen patients with any fracture or osteoporosis,. DXA screening is routine for every patient with fracture. The full-time case managers are also hired for handling the networks.  Notably, the network not only focuses on secondary prevention in fracture patients, but also handles primary prevention in patients without fracture but at high risk of fragile fracture based on FRAX scores.

A distinctive attribute of this outstanding FLS is that vertebral fracture (VF) identification is recorded via the IT system. Radiologists are responsible for typing a formal report with every X-ray. If the report includes any key words which are related to "compression fracture" (such as anterior wedge, biconcave fracture, and compression fracture) the IT system spontaneously sends the patient ID to the FLS staff who are responsible for contacting the patient to inform them of the X-ray report.

E-Da Hospital in Kaohsiung City is only the third Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) to receive a 100% on the Map of Best Practice. The Map currently includes 238 FLS in 37 countries, on all continents.
