New FLS Complexo Hospitalario Universitario A Coruña (CHUAC)

We are a multidisciplinary structure based in the rheumatology department of a tertiary care hospital located in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain (two part-time rheumatologists). We have a healthcare area of ​​500,000 patients with approximately 800 hip fractures per year. We have a part-time case manager who manages the Spanish registry (REFRA). We detect hip fractures in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons and the internal medicine liaison unit. We detect humerus and distal radius fractures from the dedicated rehabilitation department consultation. We detect vertebral fractures from primary care clinics. We initiate or continue anti-osteoporotic treatment on an individual basis and make follow-up calls. We instruct and provide all patients with fall prevention measures, as well as nutritional recommendations. The extension of fracture detection activities to the emergency department and the diagnostic radiology department is planned.
