The Orthopaedic Centre of fractures and Bonehealth (OCB) at Stavanger University Hospital, give all the patients with a fracture and age 50 years or older an appointment at the OCB. The hospital provides all the fracture treatment in an area for 380 000 inhabitants. Two DXA scans machines and two FLS-nurses provides about 4000 scans/year. All the fracture patients receive the DXA result at the clinic by the FLS-nurse. Prior to the appointment, patients deliver an own personal health report to the health record via www.helsenorge.no. The self-report contains questions of risk factor such as; previous fractures, alcohol or smoking habits, nutrition (D-vitamin or calcium), activity, dizziness and fair of falling. FLS-nurses use a structured journal chart, including all relevant information from the patient and the measurements. The FLS-nurse inform the patient about the DXA results, their risks and treatment indications.
The structured journal chart provides data to our quality registry (BeinOP). The chart also guide the FLS-nurse to take the correct actions according to our 4 quality indicators ie. vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) according to guidelines (www.iscd.org). Dedicated FLS-consultants signs all the charts, VFA pictures and start on drug treatment according to national procedure.
