I am a professor of endocinology and diabetes, Mansoura University, Egypt.
Our endocrinology unit provides a metabolic bone diseases clinic service, I am the leader of the clinic.
It provides a bone health evaluation and develops a personalized plan for patients to reach and maintain bone health, early detection and prevention of future fractures.
Screening of high risk patients in endocrinology unit as: thyroid and parathyroid diseases, Cushing, hypogonadism and diabetics
Screening of other high risk patients in collaboration with other colleagues in other departments as radiologists, nephrologists, gynecologists and rheumatologists.
In collaboration with orthopedic surgeons, we assess patients with previous fragility fractures and request Dexa scanning for them.
Also, the clinic offers education and counseling on fall prevention and safety measures; diet and supplements of calcium and vitamin D; exercise; and lifestyle changes that may need to be made.
The hospital offers both laboratory and radiologic evaluation of bone health as:
Vitamin D and Ca levels assessment
DEXA scanning and CT
We held many scientific days concerned with osteoporosis prevention and treatment.
We celebrated the World Osteoporosis Day last year and recorded it amoung the worldwide events of IOF and we are planning to celebrate the next WOD
We conduct scientific researches on evaluation of bone density and bone quality among different risky patients
