Ain Shams University Teaching Hospitals (ASUT)

In recognition of an emerging need for better quality of care of elderly patients with fragility fractures, the Orthogeriatric service at Ain Shams University teaching hospitals was started in September 2018. A protocol of cooperation was established between the Geriatric Medicine, Orthopedic, and Anaesthesia departments.

Our aim was to provide an FLS to all elderly with fragility fractures, and as a continuity to provide pre-operative care and post operative follow up. The goal is to reduce morbidity and mortality among a vulnerable group of patients, and to ensure that osteoporosis treatment and prevention is offered.

From the very start we have invested time and effort in creating a local database for patients seen by the service. Preliminary data was presented in the 6th annual international Geriatrics and Gerontology conference, Cairo, Egypt.

As part of our efforts to be part of the international scene, our service also participated in the 8th annual FFN global conference, held in Oxford, England.

“The role of depression in perioperative pain perception amongst elderly with fracture neck femur”  was the title of our poster. You can access it from this link:
