First FLS clinic in Mexico to be awarded silver-star recognition

Capture the Fracture® congratulates the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) at Centro de Investigación Ósea, Mexico for achieving excellence in its FLS services.

IOF is pleased to report that the second medical institution from Mexico to be mapped on the Capture the Fracture® (CTF) ‘Map of Best Practice’, the Fracture Liaison Service at the Centro de Investigación Ósea (CIO) in Guadalajara, has been assessed and awarded with silver-star recognition by the CTF Steering Committee.

The CIO is a mixed public-private osteoporosis center, collaborating with the Instituto de Ciencias Aplicadas a la Actividad Física y el Deporte (ICAAFYD) and leading specialist physicians, and its FLS oversees hip and vertebral fractures, among other fractures. Dr. Francisco Torres Naranjo,  FLS leader and Gynecologist at University of Guadalajara, participated in the FLS mentorship workshop that took place in Mexico City in August 2017. It is gratifying to see that participation in the mentorship programme has sparked interest in the LATAM region, which ultimately translates into improved FLS quality and patient care.

The FLS was set up 18 months ago and the team includes clinicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, administrative personnel, among others. The services includes identification and evaluation for both clinical and radiological vertebral fractures.

CIO is the 63rd FLS to be awarded Silver Star status by CTF among the 270 FLS in 38 countries.

CTF invites all clinics, public or private, at any stage in FLS development, to apply and join its global network.
